Palamós is located in the heart of the Costa Brava, in the middle of a golden sand bay. Formerly a fishing village, today Palamós is a nice town well equipped for tourism and leisure, and specially for luxury
facilities.
What to see: The origin of Palamós is the port and the historic centre. Old town you can enjoy charming medieval streets and discover many interesting monuments, like the churches of Santa Eugenia de
Villarromá or Santa María del Mar. From there, you can visit Plaza Murada and the Plaza de El Pedró, two of Palamós viewpoints. And if you like history, you can aslo visit the castle of Sant Esteve, located on La Fosca
beach.
The fishing port, beside the historic centre, is the most important part of the town. Here the yachts are replaced by fishing boats which return every day with freshly caught fish. We recommend to visit
the Palamós Fish Market, where all kind sea products are auctioned. And not just fishing boats, you can also enjoy yachts (and many luxury yachts) all along the port.
And, of course, you have to enjoy
Palamós beaches, a good example of Costa Brava beaches. Clear waters and fine sand combine with all kind of tourist facilities. We recommend beaches as the Gran Playa (the most symbolic Palamós beach), the
Playa de la Fosca and the Playa del Castell. And if you prefer calm and peace, you can choose rocky-bottomed coves like Cala Margarida or Cala Canyers. That area is one of the most luxurious Costa Brava
developments. Finally, if you like sport and contact nature, you can enjoy the nearby massif of Les Gavarres, a fantastic landscape for walking.
Palamós is also famous thanks to its gastronomy and local
cuisine, specially seafood, as part of the typical Mediterranean diet. We recommend to visit one of the many restaurants in the ports, and enjoy Palamós outstanding prawns, grilled or boiled. Lobster, squid and
cuttlefish are also an interesting option. And, of course, you have to combine that local cuisine with wines from the Costa Brava Denomination of Origin.
