Altea is one of the most beautiful towns of the Costa Blanca, located just 11 km from Benidorm, at the foot of the Sierra Bernia, and the old town sits on top of a hill dominated by the church of the Virgen del Consuelo.
Altea's Virgen del Consuelo is a famous church thanks to its wide dome covered with white and blue tiles and the spectacular views from the square in front of the church (you can enjoy great Mediterranean sea views, from Calpe's Peņon de Ifach to Benidorm skyline).
The village was originally a fortress. Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and even the Habsburg empire are part of Altea's history. The name of Altea comes from the Greek word "althaia" ("I Cure").
Typical Altea streets are cobbled and full of whitewashed houses, formerly protected by a city wall, and now lined with miradors. So it's not surprising that Altea has always been a popular destination for artists where you can find many artists' studios and craft shops. In the lower part of village we find the fishermen quarter, next to the port. There you can enjoy a lot of Altea restaurants (we specially recommend seafood paella and all kind of rice dishes)
Beach: We recommend Playa de la Roda (Roda Beach), the most interesting beach in Altea, but you can also enjoy a total of six kilometres worth of beaches (all them are beaches with pebbles and coves).
